I have decided that my new mantra for 2007 will be:
Living Simply Can Be Simply Fabulous!
It's inspired by this article on MSN. I think this aspiration will cover all of my resolutions for 2007 including working out more, losing weight, blah, blah, blah, but most importantly... saving money!
MP Dunleavey, of all people, motivated me by admitting, "Oh, I'm still tempted by chic boutiques and cool eateries. But I've had an epiphany: it was costing me too dearly to keep up appearances. I've shucked the Fabulous Life and I'm living within my means."
So there you have it - my 2007 resolution, which I'm actually kind of excited about. And it all starts with New Year's Eve, when I will not spend $200 to eat, drink, dance and party at some random club, but I will spend the evening watching TV with my favorite people in the world: Matt & Ripley. (OK, but maybe we'll splurge on a cheap bottle of wine.)

I have been tracking my expenses and income with Microsoft Money since 1994. I think it's a very valuable tool. You can't make good decisions without good information. You might think it sounds anal compulsive to go and put in the computer every quarter you put in a parking meter, but the program's usefulness is only as good as the data you put in it. If you are interested I have lots of practical advice for how to set up such a program, bugeting and basic investing.
